Neath Port Talbot to become a ‘Musical Hospital’

11th March 2024

We are excited to be working with Swansea Bay University Health Board to deliver the new ‘Musical Hospitals’ project funded by the Arts Council of Wales. This follows a successful pilot last year, in which we shared live music for wellbeing in dementia and mental health wards across the health board’s hospitals.

This year Neath Port Talbot Hospital will transform into a music hub, with Music in Hospitals & Care musicians visiting the neuro-rehabilitation ward weekly. Other partners on the project bringing music into the hospital include the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Welsh National Opera, Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and Live Music Now.

There is increasing information on the positive impacts of live music. This project looks to evaluate the wider benefits to the health board and hospital settings, asking the question: How do happier wards and visitors free up staff, help patients recover and save us resources?

We look forward to sharing more as the live music gets underway from April.
