#SmallCharityWeek – Staff Engagement Team

The final day of #SmallCharityWeek is all about HR and people, and how small charities are supporting their staff.

Our Staff Engagement team is led by Lara, our People and Culture Lead, and explores ways that staff can connect and socialise while working remotely.

The team has been in place since February 2023 and is currently made up of Lara, Live Music Coordinator Sunny and Trusts and Foundations Fundraiser Jen.

The Staff Engagement Team are responsible for fun things such as celebrating staff birthdays, group chats for different shared interested and opportunities to catch up with activities like Virtual Cuppa – a drop-in video call for anyone to join and have a chat.

As the majority of our staff work remotely, the team also comes up with new ideas for people to engage with and learn more about their colleagues. One example of this is #Threekend, which encourages staff to share three photos from their weekend on our intranet.

Lara said: “It is great to be part of a creative team that prioritises and encourages positive staff wellbeing.”

World Alzheimer’s Month: Lifting spirits in Cumbria

Our musician Andy McKay has been visiting wards and care homes across Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, where we have been able to share 29 hours of live music between September 2025 and May 2026. One of the spaces Andy visited is the Ramsey Unit at Furness General Hospital, an assessment unit for patients with organic illnesses such as dementia.
