Trustees

Our Board of Trustees have overall responsibility for Music in Hospitals & Care. They come from a range of backgrounds and bring different skills and experience to the charity.

Maureen is an employment lawyer with legal and HR experience across a wide variety of public and commercial sectors, including the NHS in Scotland.

She is a keen amateur singer and sings with the London Symphony Chorus. She was inspired to join Music in Hospitals & Care as a trustee after experiencing the power of music to communicate with close relatives living with dementia.

Chair

Jeremy is an opera singer from Wales who has performed in North and South America, Australia, the Far East, India and across Europe.

He has been a volunteer ambassador for Music in Hospitals & Care since 2013 and a trustee since 2016. He received the Medal of the Order of the British Empire in the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to music and charity.

Vice Chair

Angharad is a communications expert with experience across the public and charity sectors, including a national older people’s charity and a parliamentary watchdog.

She is a vocalist, violinist, pianist, flautist and a member of Fulham Symphony Orchestra. She was inspired to join Music in Hospitals & Care having witnessed the impact of music on family members during long-term hospital stays.

Charmian is a lawyer with extensive experience of the strategic, operational, legal and risk aspects of the management of law firms.

Music has always been important to her both as a performer and audience member. She also has experience of various hospitals and care settings and has seen first-hand the hugely beneficial impact that music can have for patients, residents and carers.

Thomas is an internal auditor, working with a number of charities and public sector clients with a focus on good governance. In his spare time Thomas is a motorsport marshal at race circuits across the UK.

Thomas is a keen advocate of the power of live music after seeing the transformative positive impact it had on mental health of peers and colleagues whilst at University in Bristol.

Dimple is a senior manager in healthcare with experience in NHS operations and quality assurance, and improvement in clinical services across the UK and Ireland.


Dimple enjoys the transformative power of music and believes in holistic care and wellbeing as a way to support physical health, and so was keen to become a trustee for Music in Hospitals & Care.

Robert is Chief Operating Officer of a mental health charity and previously worked in patient experience – helping NHS organisations engage with their patients and improve care provision.

Music has always played a crucial role in Robert’s wellbeing and happiness, and he passionately believes in music’s power to revive, reinvigorate, and restore. Robert is a member of a vocal group based in London.

Jennifer has worked in academic research for over 12 years. This has combined cognitive science, music and engineering to explore how music can impact health and wellbeing for older adults and those living with dementia.

Jennifer is an avid performer on the piano and viola. She was inspired to join the board after hearing about the continued work of Music in Hospitals & Care throughout the pandemic.

Dr Jennifer MacRitchie

Andrew is a Chartered Accountant with over 40 years’ experience in Financial, Strategic and Risk Management. He has also been the Chair of an NHS Mental Health Trust and a national children’s charity.

He has witnessed how live music can raise the spirits of long-term patients with a close family member in London hospitals. Music assumed huge importance, both as a release and a link with the outside world.

Chloe is a corporate sustainability consultant, working to help clients improve their environmental and societal impact. She has advised major corporations across a range of sectors.

As a keen singer, Chloe believes in the powerful role music can play in the health and wellbeing of both the performer and the audience.

Alasdair is a former Intensive Care Consultant who has practiced in the USA and across South West England. He was inspired to become a trustee with Music in Hospitals & Care after witnessing first hand the benefit that music can have on patients recovering from severe illness.

Alasdair enjoys playing the trumpet and lives near Exeter with his wife, sons, chickens and a dog.

Dr Alasdair Dow

Claire brings health/social care communications and marketing expertise from public, private and charity sectors, including currently working for the Social Care Institute for Excellence, and previously Alzheimer’s Society for several years.

She is a violinist, leader of the EC4 orchestra, and still plays professionally occasionally for pop artists and classical concerts.
