Time to celebrate Volunteers’ Week!

This week we are celebrating our fantastic volunteers and the valuable addition they make to the MiHC community.

Hannah Merchant, who volunteers with our team in South England, studied Music at the University of Oxford and is now keen to pursue a career in Music Therapy. Whilst volunteering with MiHC she has particularly enjoyed attending concerts and hearing how they have impacted audiences:

“I have been volunteering with Music in Hospitals & Care since November 2018. My role involves visiting a diverse range of settings to collect feedback. It has been a privilege to witness the warm response of both patients and staff to performers at concerts. One touching anecdote involved a lady at the Royal Star and Garter Home who enjoyed mirroring an ‘imaginary’ piano during a pianist’s concert, as well as singing along to many of the songs he played.

Attending concerts has allowed me to witness first-hand the amazing impact that live music can have in medical settings. The feedback I receive from patients and staff just emphasises the invaluable service that the charity provides.

I am very grateful for all the opportunities that the charity is giving me and very much look forward to continuing volunteering with them”.

Student Volunteering Week: Molly

It’s Student Volunteering Week, and we’re celebrating the important role student volunteers play in helping us share the joy of live music with communities across the UK.

Children’s Mental Health Week: Reuben’s Retreat

We’ve been sharing the joy of live music with children, their families and staff at Reuben’s Retreat in Glossop. The sessions are designed to soothe and support children with life limiting illnesses and offer an opportunity for families to connect with others who understand their experience.

Special live music for Burns Night

Burns Night celebrates the poems and songs of Scotland’s national bard Robert Burns and his lasting legacy. Our musician John Davidson is sharing two special live music experiences at Woodend Hospital in Aberdeen to commemorate the day.
