MIHC Wales Awarded for Innovative Fundraising

20th February 2018

Music in Hospitals & Care Cymru were delighted to receive an award at the WCVA Third Sector Awards 2018, presented by Sian Lloyd. The charity received recognition in the Innovative Fundraising category for their work with volunteer fundraisers who provide music at Cardiff’s University Hospitals of Wales.

The team in Wales regularly work with budding musicians and students from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, who perform live music recitals on the hospital concourse in order to raise vital funds for the charity. These therapeutic concerts not only create a welcome distraction from the monotony of hospital waiting rooms for unwell patients, but also raise awareness for the charity. This activity provides young musical volunteers with a wonderful opportunity to support a local cause whilst develop their performing experience, and helped generate just over £1,000 for MIHC Cymru in the last financial year.

One of Wales’ regular volunteers, Lydia Savory, attended the WVCA Event to join the team in collecting their prize. She commented:

“It was so humbling to be invited to such a prestigious event, and for Music in Hospitals & Care to be recognised for their fundraising was just the cherry on top of the cake. I hope that this recognition will help draw further awareness to the work carried out but this wonderful charity!”
