Auditions

Our audition process ensures that we maintain the highest standards of both musicianship and communication in the delivery of our service for people in care. We currently have around 450 musicians who work on behalf of Music in Hospitals & Care, providing around 5,000 live concerts each year in care settings across the UK.

MiHC concerts can be both challenging and rewarding. Most take place in the afternoons and can involve a degree of travel to reach a care setting. In order to reach more remote parts of the, UK we may arrange a tour of care settings, involving an overnight stay in accommodation.

Music in Hospitals & Care’s musicians come from a wide variety of musical backgrounds: folk, classical, opera, jazz, stage, and screen to name a few. Musicians are selected as soloists, duos and occasionally as trios. Auditions can be applied for by contacting the MiHC office in the area in which you live. Please find further details below and get in touch. We’re always happy to hear from musicians who are interested in working with us – call us for an informal chat about any audition enquiries.

Current openings for new musicians are outlined below:

MiHC Scotland
We are currently looking for solo musicians experienced in musical delivery in healthcare settings (ideally hospitals and hospices) to help us deliver Lullaby Hour sessions in acute children’s wards. Due to the nature of the settings there are restrictions on noise levels which make some instrumentation preferable i.e gentle voice, ukulele, acoustic guitar, harp/lap harp etc.

Please contact Concerts Manager Penny Johnston on 0131 556 5848 or penny@mihc.org.uk for more information.

MiHC England (South)

MiHC England (North)

  • One gentleman's eyes were brimming with emotion and I could really see how much every note and word meant to him - it was wonderful to be a part of and to witness.
