Didsbury Guitar Trail 2023

Come down to Fletcher Moss Park in South Manchester on Sunday 16 July for a great day of music. Players of all styles and levels are welcome to perform in the alpine gardens between 11am and 2pm, before local acts including Music in Hospitals & Care musicians take to the acoustic and main stage between 2pm and 5.30pm. Huge thanks to the organisers for fundraising at the event for the 14th year!

The guitar trail was set up in 2009. It was the brainchild of Peter Gidman, with the backing of Didsbury Civic society.

The purpose of the event was to attract local guitar talent to play in the beautiful setting of the Fletcher Moss botanical gardens, to raise money for Music in Hospitals & Care. Since 2009, Didsbury Guitar Trail has raised over £7,400 for the charity.

Each year, weather allowing, members of the public are invited to meander around the gardens of Fletcher moss gardens, this historic jewel in Didsbury’s crown, listening to all genres of music, played on guitar, from the Beatles to Beethoven.

It is a family event, in which the public can bring a picnic or enjoy the excellent food and hospitality at the Fletcher Moss café, whilst enjoying the entertainment.

All levels of players are encouraged to come along. Some performers may be playing in public for the first time. There is some seasoned artists, who return year after year, to offer their considerable talents for this fabulous event. You will find them in shady nooks or sitting on the grass, each entertaining in their own unique way. Music in the botanical gardens is restricted to none amplified, so that all performers have an equal chance to be heard

‘Art on the Railings’ has been a welcome addition to the guitar trail in recent years with Phil and Janet arranging the work of local artists in a mini-Montmartre for an extra element of sophistication. Everyone is welcome to peruse this open air gallery or buy the work of their favourite artist.

As the afternoon draws to a close, everyone is invited to come to the top terrace, where an amplified stage is set up and invited guests, including some you may recognise from Music in Hospitals & Care, play into the early evening.

There will also be a pagoda stage, which will host a mixture of old favourites and invited guests, for your entertainment and delight.
